How about let's say
free music what would you say?
"YAY ME!" Being able to download music for free is definitely convenient. I download music practically each day of my life and I fully support it. I usually download music to see whether I should buy the CD when I have the time and money and
"support" the artists.
For me, someone who does not really listen to
"mainstream" music that much has a hard time searching for CDs of the artists/bands I like. As much as I want to do an online purchase for their album, if I can get the exact same thing
for free I would go for the free one. Also, some online purchases simply just gives you the files when you can get the same files for free using a p2p [peer to peer] program.
A good example would be downloading a popular program such as
Adobe Photoshop. In stores such as
Best Buy, I saw them being sold for
$800.00 CDN. To think about it:
- I have no job - Which means I don't think I can afford to spend $800.00 or even have that much in my hands.
- $800.00 can get me a lot of other things - I don't think I am that serious about web design and graphics. I just find it as a hobby.
- There are other important things than a program - If I can just download it for free, I will be able to obtain other things.
Now that I think about it,
How much do the actual artists receive from when their album sells? and the answer is
not much. Their record company gets more profit than they do. Besides, those recording companies are
sometimes usually unfair to the artists; especially if they are new to the music industry.
If they sue people for downloading music
"illegally", they might as well sue everyone. As far as I'm concern, a lot of people download
"illegally". Because you know...free things always bring the people coming.
